Foundations Part 2 of 2

Psalms 11:3 (KJV) If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Our founders could read about the invention of catapults and gunpowder.  They could destroy things and kill more efficiently with these.  After gunpowder came pistols, rifles and cannon.  Then someone learned to fill cannon balls with gunpowder and make a fuse to detonate it at just the right time over the heads of the enemy.  There was concussion and shrapnel.  There were also rockets.  We sing about those in our national anthem.

O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Our early warriors managed to get British muskets and other British weapons, the latest technology of the 18th   and early 19th century.

The United States Constitution has absolutely nothing to do with technology.  Even if we had the technology of Star Trek it wouldn’t change one word, one letter or one punctuation mark in the constitution.  The constitution is a set of unchangeable principles.  Not even with advanced technology or culture.  It’s not a perfect document but the inspiration for it came from the knowledge of history and the perfect Word of the One and Only perfect God.  According to Malachi 3:6 (KJV) For I am the LORD, I change not; Hebrews 13:8 (KJV) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

After all, folks, how can you improve on perfection?  If God were to change, he’d become imperfect.  We have lots of imperfect gods and they are all wicked!!  The great American Republic isn’t about men, technology or culture.  It’s about the creator of heaven and earth and his Christ.

Words of the great patriot, Patrick Henry:

•    Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of Liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.

•    It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ! For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.

Another great patriot, Benjamin Franklin said:

•    I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that "except the LORD build the house they labour in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better, than the builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing governments by human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest.

Psalms 118:8 (KJV) It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
Where do we stand?  In whom do we trust?  Do we put our trust in men, in our own strength or in a mighty God?  Do we need a majority?  I say not if we put our trust in God and give him the glory for all that is accomplished.  Does God still perform miracles?  You bet he does.

2 Kings 6:15-17 (KJV) And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

That is a perfect example of divine providence.  Was Elisha a great strategist?  Probably not.  General George Washington wasn’t a great strategist.  He’d never fought in the great battles in which the British had learned their strategies.  The continental army lost many battles.  Washington told of 80+ times that divine providence took place.  The United States of America is a nation brought forth by the direct intervention of almighty God.

You say ……… “ but it’s …….. hard.”  Yes and it’ll probably get even harder before it gets better.  I can guarantee you that Washington and the continental army was tired and weary most of the time but they kept up the fight.  Because of that and the intervention of God they won!!!

Galatians 6:9 (KJV) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Joshua 24:15 (KJV) And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Joshua 24:24 (KJV) And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.

Choose you this day whom YOU will serve.

As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!!!
